August 2010 saw BBBS, Galway initiate a site-mentoring programme. The aim of the week was two fold. Firstly it was to raise awareness in the community about the programme and encourage more people (especially men) to volunteer.
We also wanted a number of young males on our waiting list to experience having a mentor in a fun and unique way.
During the course of the week the participants were matched up with members of An Garda Siochána, Connacht Rugby Team, Galway Senior Football Team, Galway Senior Hurling Team and members of the Galway Coarse Angling Club. Each mentor spent time with the "little brother" they were matched up to and gave them a few tips in their area of expertise. In fact on some occasions it was the adult mentor who had learnt more at the end of the day.
At the end of the week a closing ceremony was held at City Hall which saw the young males presented with certificates by Deputy Mayor Brian Walsh.
