Foróige is a National Youth Development Organisation engaged in Youth Development and Education. Founded in 1952, it is one of Irelands leading youth organisations engaged in the development and education of young people in Ireland aged 10-18. It is an organisation infused with values which form a rich philosophy of human growth and development, a philosophy based on a belief in the dignity and creativity of each individual person. The fundamental purpose of the organisation is to enable young people to involve themselves consciously and actively in their own development and the development of society.
Foróige established the Big Brother Big Sister (BBBS) programme in 2000. The pilot phase, in partnership with the then Western Health Board, included developing the programme in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon. Foróige, now the registered affiliate organisation that hosts Big Brothers Big Sisters in Ireland, is rolling out the programme nationally.
